$32,888 in donations from a free Google Ad Grant, a large public radio nonprofit

Introduction

This client is a large public radio nonprofit, and at their request we’ve kept them anonymous here. Everything below is from their live Google Ad Grant account.

We took over the account in November 2025, when it was stuck at around $3,440 a month. The grant was active but it wasn’t being pushed anywhere near what was available.

The nonprofit wanted to use the Google Ad Grant to:

  • Show up for the events happening in their area
  • Serve only their freshest content, never anything out of date
  • Support their pledge drives and turn interest into donations

Overall Results

November 2025, the month we took over, closed at $3,440.08:

Within four months we had broken $9,900, and by May 2026 the account reached an all-time high of $10,200.12, which is the full grant and then some:

Process and Strategy

Let’s explain the three things that got it there.

Expanding Into Event Keywords

The nonprofit wanted to show up for the different events happening in their area but was previously unsure how to approach it, so we built out a collection of event-based keywords.

Some of those are specific to an individual event, like jazz festivals or music festivals, and others are deliberately generic, like things to do with families. We also set up conversions across the account, which were critical for the event campaign in particular, because without them there’s no way to tell which of those two groups is actually worth the spend.

Serving Only The Freshest Content

The nonprofit wanted the grant to promote only their newest content, which is harder than it sounds in a search account.

Their URL structure happens to contain the date and month, so we built a dynamic search campaign around a URL pattern that matches a rolling three month window. That means content can start showing as soon as it’s published, and anything older than three months drops out on its own. No stale content ever gets served.

Turning Brand Searches Into Donations

This nonprofit runs very large pledge drives, and they already have real brand awareness for their national programs, which is the kind of demand most grant accounts never think to capture.

Rather than sending someone to the homepage when they search the brand, or search for one of the many programs the nonprofit produces, we send them to a pledge drive page. So somebody looking for one of their best known shows lands on the current pledge drive alongside the content they came for, which turns traffic that was interested in the programming into donors.

For 2026 alone that has come to $32,888.91 in donations:

That is exceptional performance and it is not typical for a Google Ad Grant account. It’s driven by the heavy brand awareness this nonprofit already had before we started, so not every organization should expect results at that level. The strategy itself is replicable, but what the grant can return depends a great deal on the demand already out there for you.

Moving Forward

The account went from $3,440 a month to the cap in six months, and it now supports the pledge drives rather than just producing clicks.
